About the School

Chinmaya Vidyalayas are run under the auspices of the Central Chinmaya Mission Trust, Bombay, in different parts of the country. The Vidyalaya in each place is administered by a Managing Committee under the regional Trust consisting of the local members of the Chinmaya Mission and other people interested in the cause. The School has nursery as well as primary classes in most of the centres. Montessori and other modern systems are adopted in the nursery section. In the primary classes we follow the curricula of other recognized schools. The medium of instruction is English.

In a growing child, individuality unfolds over the years. Stage by stage his awareness and understanding abilities and capacities unfold as he becomes more and more aware of our world and gradually he moves from the dim consciousness of infancy through the dreamy days of childhood, to the intellectual awareness of adolescence and beyond to adulthood. We should assist in this awakening process in the healthiest possible way by bringing to the child the right kind of educational nourishment. This is what Chinmaya Vidyalaya is aiming at with sincerity in the best interests of the children and their future..

About the School
Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kolazhy, Thrissur, a Vidyalaya with a difference, has carved a niche for itself in the field of education. The Vidyalaya had a humble beginning in the year 1979. A group of dedicated devotees of Chinmaya Mission Educational and Cultural Trust, Thrissur, is working behind every activity of the Vidyalaya. The Vidyalaya became a full-fledged secondary school in 1990. In 1991 the Senior Secondary classes were started. It was started to perpetuate the ideals of its founder H.H. Swami Chinmayananda and his vision of “catching them young”. The Vidyalaya has gained the ISO 9001:2008 in the year 2009 [from December 2009].

The Vidyalaya provides a platform for the holistic growth of the learner. The quality policy of the Vidyalaya is to offer the child a value based and holistic education which paves the way for the integrated development of the physical, mental, intellectual, spiritual aspects of the personality enriched by knowledge of Indian culture, a feeling of patriotism and a universal outlook.

The facilities include airy, ventilated classrooms, fully equipped labs., adequately stocked library, most sophisticated computer systems, digital classrooms, audio-visual room with facilities like LCD projector, OHP, TV, computers, sports and art rooms, an international-standard basketball court, a spacious playground and an auditorium.

The campus is going green and beautiful with various medicinal plants, ECO club, energy conservation club, Apan Mithra – the accident management cell, seminars, youth festival, SPICMACAY etc. to interact and learn. As part of the school activity, the school has ventured into community services also. The Vidyalaya is a member of Student Empowerment for Environmental Development Project [SEED Project] – a joint venture of Mathrubhumi & Labour India Publications supported by the State Government. The project aims to pave way for a new green culture by assembling High Schools, Higher Secondary Schools and Upper Primary Schools in the State. The functional activities aim to strengthen the students to ensure environment-friendly growth and development..
Chinmaya Vidyalaya Kolazhy, Thrissur, like all Chinmaya Vidyalayas in the country is a School With A Difference (SWAD). By this we mean that we do not merely emphasize on academics though we are in the forefront in that field, but we also enable students to adapt to various situations in life through our Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP) which aims at the holistic development of the individual by adopting the four-pronged programme of integrated development of the personality, inculcation of patriotism, emphasis on Indian culture along with a universal outlook on life.

Our school curriculum is framed to impart value-based education that aims at both spiritual and intellectual development of the child along with the physical and emotional. Our school is one of the leading schools in Kerala in the field of academics. Students are encouraged to think creatively and originally.

We aim to provide a serene and pristine environment conducive to learning by creating an oasis like place and greenery in the school campus. We have a unique and exclusive herbal garden with about fifty varieties of medicinal plants and we aim to grow more than 100 varieties by the end of 2018. We also have a wonderful collection of flowering plants and an extensive vegetable garden, which provides all the vegetables for the school hostel. Both the herbal and the vegetable garden are tended exclusively by students of class 8 and 9.

Children are exposed to Indian culture and heritage right from the lower class. The students and staff celebrate all festivals in its true spirit. The students and teachers under the guidance of the Principal perform activities associated with the function, dress for the occasion and explain the significance of these functions to the children.

Our children learn to see and appreciate the harmony in Creation by giving due importance to all aspects of environmental education. Students prepare Vermi-compost- an excellent organic fertilizer in addition to gardening. We are also enforcing a ban on plastic and encouraging the use of eco-friendly bags, pouches, plates, glasses etc. It is our vision to impart education through a mixture of Science and Spirituality
