About the School

In order to sponsor education to girls, Mahila Vidyalay was founded on 13th September, Vijayadashmi day in the year 1933. The founders formed an organization named Samaj Seva Sangh and under this banner they all worked together for the establishment of this institution. The founders of the institution are Late Shri Keshav Anant Naik, Shri Krishna Narayan Naik, Shri Damodar Achut Kare, Shri Kashinath Damodar Naik, Shri Govind Ramnath Kare, Shri Hari Ramchandra Pai Raiturkar, Shri Krishnarao Shankar Shet Verlekar and Shri Vishnu Narayan Naik.

The main aim was to educate and empower women by giving them proper education with emphasis on self employment towards this end ‘Mahila Vidyalaya’ was established. This was not a merely girl’s school, the institution started embroidery & sewing, music, hindi classes. There was an ‘Udyog Mandir’ where women were trained in different trades. Library’s special classes for adult women, child care, health education, nursing, first aid, home science, cooking, drawing, flower making & handicraft. The products made in this Udyog Mandir were displayed and sold in exhibitions organized by Samaj Seva Sangh.
