About the College

The year 1892 witnessed the transfer of an Arya Samaj evening school from Meerut to the valley of Dehradun. That sapling grew and developed as D.A.V. School. Gradually growing, extending its branch it became Dayanand Anglo Vedic Post Graduate College, Dehradun in 1948 with the help of people like Thakur Puran Singh Negi who donated his entire immovable property to this educational institution. It nurtured well on the principles laid by Swami Dayanand and was also influenced by the Anglo Education System. It has now emerged as one of the most famous premier institutions of Northern India after independence and the biggest college of Uttarakhand State having all the five faculties viz. ARTS, SCIENCE, COMMERCE, B.Ed & LAW comprising twenty one disciplines.

Initially, it was managed by the eminent educationist and social reformer Hon’ble (Late) Virendra Swaroop, Chairman of Legislative Council (U.P.). It is now under the able supervision and control of Shri Jagendra Swaroop, M.L.C. and Secretary, Board Of Management of Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan, Kanpur. The college is also a recognised Study Centre of IGNOU, and different self finance courses such as Journalism, Tourism and B.Sc.IT. The research projects of UGC, CSIR, DST, ISRO and ICSSR in different disciplines are being successfully run by the eminent faculties in the college campus. There has been a long glorious record of the college in different programmes like Sports, Games, Adult Education, Rovers and Rangers, NCC and NSS etc. The college has produced eminent personalities who have made their mark in different fields in India and Abroad. This tree of ours is still expanding in the way of development and enlightening thousands of scholars every year . The college is also accredited by NAAC, an autonomous body of UCG in the year 2004, which given B+ grade i.e. 78.5 percent. Presently it is the principalship of Dr. S.K Singh which is setting the college towards new dimensions. Very rightly we strive towards: “Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya”.

OUR VISION
TAMSO MA JYOTIRGAMAYA: Andhkar se Prakash ke Ore (FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT) i.e. from Ignorance to Knowledge, the principle propounded by Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati has been adopted as the vision of the college. The college has a vision to impart holistic education so that the students can develop a comprehensive worldview. The vision of the college is to inculcate among students a sense of understanding, commitment and contribution for the betterment of society.

Dayanand Anglo-Vedic (Post-Graduate) College, Dehradun is one of the oldest and the largest academic institutions of North India. The mission of the college is to impart quality education to its students and to make them qualified, committed and compensated individuals. D.A.V. (P.G.) College, Dehradun has the mission to expose its students to latest information at the national and international levels so that they are aware of national and global developments in their relevant academic fields. The mission of the college may be briefly summarized as follows:
