About the School

Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School hails its name from the most revered prophet and martyr, the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh BahadurJi. His life and teachings stand as an epitome of courage and sacrifice. His message has a universal appeal which has greatly influenced the boundless courage to stand for the rights of others and his readiness to sacrifice his life for securing their freedom and justice, created a deep impact in the history of India. His martyrdom brought wide spread moral and social patriotism. For his supreme sacrifice, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is remembered as “ Hind ki Chadar” which means The Protector of the Honour of India.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School is situated in the eastern fringes of India, in the steel and industrial city of Durgapur. The School was started with the blessings and secular teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and under the name of the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji who was a prophet as well as a martyr. Our School was started in the year 1975 at Gurudwara Jagat Sudhar Benachity, Durgapur with active support of local Sikh sangat with only 50 students. The School was shifted to its present location in the year 1977 and was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab Shri Prakash Singh Badal. It is a School governed by the Sikh community which was set up for the purpose of serving the society. Our School is presently headed by S.Guru Simran Prithpal Singh, President, and S.Sukhjinder Singh, Secretary.

We are also extremely grateful to Durgapur Steel Plant who has provided us this land for setting up the school building and thus enabling us to render charitable service to the society. We are also thankful to the Town Administration of Durgapur Steel Plant for the services they are giving us for smooth running of the School. We also acknowledge the fact that the achievements of our School are due to the dedicated and whole-hearted efforts of all the staff members.

Our school is like a mini world where students come from all sections of the society, irrespective of caste, creed and religion. We follow Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s idealism where Guru Ji has talked of a school as an institution, a mint, in fact a university where humanlife is prepared and mended so that man may achieve his cherished aim in life. The school epitomizes a child friendly ambience making the little ones feel at home. The fertile innovative way of thinking of our teaching staff laced with their outstanding foresight help to nurture the students to become future local citizens. The mission of our school is to impart training in life-skills deftly combined with academic nurturing in a carefree atmosphere. We believe education is not just imparting academic training but a holistic development of the personality of the child.
