Sat Paul Mittal School was set up by Nehru Sidhant Kendra Trust in the fond memory of its founder President Late Shri Sat Paul Mittal, who actively participated in the freedom struggle as a student leader. Essentially a man of the masses, he worked selflessly for the upliftment of the weaker sections of society and reached out to them for their amelioration. He was an excellent orator, a keen debater and a widely travelled person. He had unflinching faith in the common destiny of mankind and was particularly interested in the promotion of the Indian youth. Shri Mittal was a great institution builder and established Nehru Sidhant Kender at Ludhiana and Centre for Parliamentarians on Population and Development in Delhi. Committed to the cause of education, he initiated various scholarship programs for the underprivileged and meritorious students.

Late Shri Mittal served as the Deputy Home Minister, Punjab and was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1976, 1982 and then again nominated in 1988. As Chairman of Asian forum of Parliamentarians and Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, Shri Mittal assiduously worked for fostering the cause of population stabilization. His efforts received well-deserved recognition internationally when he was awarded the prestigious United Nations’ Peace medal in 1987 for his outstanding contribution in the field of population and development. Also, as Founder Chairman of Parliamentarians Action for Removal of Apartheid [PARA-India], he led the Parliamentary Campaign against apartheid all over the World. As Founder Secretary General of Global Forum of Spiritual and Parliamentary Leaders on Human Survival, he made significant contributions towards peaceful resolution of burning issues facing mankind.

Shri Mittal was clear and unshakable in his objectives yet practical, strong yet full of compassion, proud of his national heritage yet imbued with international vision transcending regional and parochial consideration. Shri Mittal has indeed left behind a rich legacy and posterity shall gratefully remember the significant contributions made by him in promoting better awareness of population and development, environment, apartheid and human survival issues.
